The prevalence of various data processing technologies and high-end computers has enabled the ability to mathematically manipulate data which has formerly relied on the brain for processing such as speech, audio, images, and video. This area has four faculty members, and research and teaching in this area are on fundamental theory and applications to real-world data processing problems. Data processing touches a large variety of engineering problems, from communication to human-computer interface, to medical imaging and multimedia.
Research in this area at OSU includes the following three main thrusts -(1) Signal processing: audio compression, speech recognition, speech synthesis, language identification, statistical signal processing, wireless sensor networks. (2) Image processing: image compression, image enhancement, remote sensing data analysis, medical image analysis. (3) Video processing: content-based video analysis, visual surveillance, human activity recognition, object tracking/recognition, and multimedia applications, etc.

Dr. Qi Cheng received a B.E. in electrical engineering (with highest honor) from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China in July 1999. She worked as a System Engineer in Guoxin Lucent Technologies Network Technologies Co. Ltd. between July 1999 and Dec. 2000. From 2001-2006 she has been with the Data Fusion Group in the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science of Syracuse University, where she received a M.S. and Ph.D. in 2003 and 2006 respectively. She is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Oklahoma State University. Her research interests include statistical signal processing and data fusion for communications and wireless sensor networks.
Dr. Sabit Ekin has joined the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK, as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2016. He received his Ph.D. degree from Electrical and Computer Engineering, Texas A&M University, College Station, TX, 2012, the M.Sc. degree from Electrical Engineering, New Mexico Tech, NM, 2008, and the B.Sc. degree from Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Eskisehir Osmangazi University, Turkey, 2006.
He was working as a visiting research assistant in Electrical and Computer Engineering Program at Texas A&M University at Qatar (2008–2009). During the summer of 2012, he worked with the Femto-cell interference management team in the Corporate R&D at New Jersey Research Center, Qualcomm Inc. After his Ph.D. study, he joined in Qualcomm Technologies Inc., San Diego, CA, where he worked as a Senior Modem Systems Engineer at the Department of Qualcomm Mobile Computing. He has received numerous Qualstar awards for his achievements/contributions in Qualcomm. His research interests are in the areas of design and performance analysis of communications systems in in both theoretical and practical point of views, particularly interference management and statistical modeling of interference in next-generation wireless and cognitive radio networks.
Dr. Guoliang Fan received his B.S. in automation engineering from Xi'an University of Technology, Xi'an, China, in 1993, a M.S. in Computer Engineering from Xidian University, Xi'an, China, in 1996, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Delaware, Newark, DE, in 2001. Since 2001, Dr. Fan has been an Assistant/Associate Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at OSU. His research interests include image processing, computer vision and biomedical imaging applications. Dr. Fan is a recipient of the 2004 National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER award and is a Senior Member of IEEE.
Dr. Keith Teague serves as Professor and Immediate Past Head of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Oklahoma State University, where he also serves as a Faculty Affiliate with the School of International Studies and Outreach. Dr. Teague possesses a strong interest in engineering education and teaches in the areas of digital signal processing, speech processing, real-time signal processing, capstone design, and circuits. Dr. Teague’s research interests include wired and wireless communication systems, secure voice over IP, low rate speech coding, topics related to information assurance and security, and engineering education. He has a long record of funded research serving as PI or co-PI on projects totaling more than $5 million in career funding. These include numerous projects dealing with future secure wired and wireless communications technologies, modeling and simulation of secure wireless communications systems, as well as several National Science Foundation projects for enhancement of engineering education. Dr. Teague has a special interest in international academic collaborations and partnerships, particularly in Asia where he has traveled extensively. Dr. Teague received the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, specializing in digital signal processing, from Oklahoma State University in 1984. He has industrial experience with Amoco Production Company Research Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He has authored or co-authored more than 50 technical articles. Dr. Teague is a member of Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi, a senior member of IEEE, and a Registered Professional Engineer in Oklahoma.
